The graphic designer, Greg Hastings, is an award winning graphic artist who works with one of the largest advertising agencies in the South. His most recent work has appeared in Adweek, How Magazine’s 2000 International Design Annual, US Ad Review, and Graphic Design USA. Greg has designed numerous book covers, all of which have received great reviews and have had a very positive impact on book sales. Ron McConathy’s photography is noted for its warmth and great attention to detail. The photo selected for the cover was taken in Cades Cove, which is located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, one of the loveliest, most peaceful places in this country. The photograph creates an ambiance of peacefulness and tranquility through the timeless beauty of nature. The image also captures beautifully the philosophy that taking time out from our busy lives and being in nature can help us to rejuvenate and restore a healthier perspective to our lives, which is the intention and purpose of this calendar. “This late fall day promised a last warm reprieve before winter, and we talked and laughed together as we drove toward Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to enjoy the beautiful day. We photographed white-tailed deer, hiked into wooded areas away from the road, and drove the lane around the Cove. Our favorite picture that day was of a family sitting together under an old tree at an overlook, enjoying the delightful weather, a picnic lunch, and a priceless view.” [Update: A few years later, this tree blew down in a fierce winter storm, and we thought of all the families it must have known during its lifetime.] Ron and Sharon McConathy, Aronsha Scenic and Rick Soldin, Web producer extraordinaire, founded Electronic Publishing Services, Inc. in 1989 to offer book publishing production services. Since the establishment of his company, EPS, Inc. has wowed its clients, which include many of the major publishing houses, with not only notable design capabilities, but also with an exceptional ability to manage complex projects while consistently hitting very tight deadlines. Rick’s studio, nestled in the gorgeous hills of East Tennessee, has successfully turned out book after book, year after year. And, perhaps most importantly, Rick’s calm, reassuring presence, active support and technical assistance for this project have proven invaluable. |
